June is a transitional month in numerous ways. Obviously, there is a seasonal shift from work, perhaps school related priorities, to lazy long days in the sun at water’s edge and/or out door farming and gardening.

Summer travel plans come into focus as the Sun moves through Gemini skies, the zodiac sign of travel and connection to others. The Gemini twins instill a keen sense of exploration, curiosity and adventure.

Adventure versus Comfort of Home
We are already familiar with Gemini themes as Mercury zoomed through this zodiac sign for most of May. However, there is a prolonged emphasis on Gemini throughout June/July as restless, on-the-go Mercury, is entering a retrograde period on June 7 that continues to July 1.

Known for its delays and indecision, Mercury retrograde can present challenges as summer plans come together to fall apart, and come back together again in a new form. There is a strong pull between Gemini’s desire for novelty and excitement, and Cancer’s need for comfort and safety.

Mercury retrograde provides an excellent chance to catch up, complete projects around the office or home, in preparation for travel and adventure on down the road. If you already have your travel plans in place for June, no worries, just double check itinerary times and dates as there is a tendency to gloss over details and miss relevant facts.

Authenticity Supports Personal Clarity
A Full Moon on June 13 supports all aspects of communication. With the Sun in Gemini and Moon in Sagittarius, this is a time for self-inquiry, potent honesty with self and others. Both of these zodiac signs are known for inspiring and expanding perspective and knowledge. Those born under these signs are friendly, good conversationalists, excellent storytellers, and generally out going.

But, as the old adage says, "talk is cheap." This is a month to listen between the lines, avoid gossip and slander, keep an eye on the truth, and walk your talk. The Full Moon serves to reveal indiscretion and inconsistencies in perspective that really matter in the long run.

A very important time in any retrograde cycle is the joining of the Sun with Mercury, and this occurs on June 19 at 6:50 p.m. Between the solar light illuminating the Moon on the 13th, and Mercury on the 19th, there is a marked tendency for direction to come into focus during the second half of June. This trend can enhance and bring clarity in small, everyday decisions as well as major life decisions.

From Resistance to Relationship Skill & Peace
These significant days lead into the Summer Solstice on June 21 at 6:51 a.m. The longest day of the year provides that extra boost of illumination for fun, celebration and rejuvenation. In these enchanted and ancient mountains of western North Carolina, the nature spirits are known to come out and play, casting a spell of magic across the region.

This brings us to Mars - a major planetary player during the month of June. Since last December, I have been tracking Mars in its slow, but sure, transit through Libra skies.

Bringing all aspects of relationship to the forefront, these last months have been about learning how to negotiate, collaborate and live in a spirit of teamwork. Equally, Mars has exposed the hidden places in self that may overly compromise, and then hold on to resentment and hurts when others are not on the same page.

Mars in Libra was a key player in the Grand Square/Cardinal Climax planetary alignment in April. If you find any lingering and unresolved relationship issues, June is the month for final purging and release.

Mars once again stimulates the on-going Uranus square Pluto dynamic on June 14. It is a stressful, combustive combination, not easy to withstand, but serves to expose some of the final pieces of resistance to peace and resolution.

Surrender Brings New Clarity & Direction
On June 25, Mars joins Uranus, the planet of freedom, providing the impetus for a breakaway, and really turning the page.

All year, I have used the image of standing at the crossroads, waiting for clarity and direction. Whether the wait has been frustrating or patient, there is dramatic movement as the way becomes clear. These months have provided a space of recapitulation on many levels.

It is as though the burdens from the past have become too heavy, and many have experienced the necessity of relinquishing control interlaced with the potency of surrender. The phase of looking back and attempting to make sense of things is over. This carries a powerful feeling of breaking free of past circumstances along with all the programming, hurts and disappointments.

Healthy Rootedness Brings Good Fortune
June concludes with a New Moon on June 27. In the zodiac sign of Cancer, there is a pull to home and garden, and close relationships that support a sense of safety and emotional wellbeing.

The New Moon is always an optimum time to set intentions for the next lunar cycle of 28 days. Considering the symbol of Cancer the Crab and its instinctive pull to safety and security, intentions may revolve around family, land, home, and real estate.

Wherever you find yourself, in a hotel or campsite, your property or another’s, you can always make home a place of nurturing, caring, protection, consideration and tranquility.

Jupiter in particular, the planet of confidence, shines its good fortune, enhancing the opportunity to generate healthy roots in self, within and without, and deeply resting in the just-right place - your unique place in this amazing cosmos
